History was made on November 15, 2024, as Team Malaysia conquered the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) event at the World eSports Championship (WEC) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. In an electrifying Grand Finals, the national squad crushed Team Philippines 2-0, securing their first-ever championship title and a staggering USD 70,000 share of the USD 160,000 prize pool.
The roster of champions included Muhammad Haqqullah Ahmad Shahrul Zaman (Sekys), Hazziq Danish Mohd Rizwan (Stormie), Muhammad Qayyum Ariffin Mohd Suhairi (Yums), Ilman Zareef Zulkifli (Gojes), JP NINERS Ealtond Rayner (Loleal), and Muhammad Amir Zakwan Mohd Noor (Zakqt).
This victory was especially sweet for Malaysia, who delivered payback in style after a 1-2 loss to the Philippines earlier in the group stage. They battled through the tournament with fiery determination, starting strong on Day 1 by sweeping Team US and Team Türkiye 2-0 each. Their only stumble came against the Philippines, but they still advanced to the knockout stages by defeating Team Indonesia 2-1, clinching second place in their group.

Malaysia’s triumph marked the first time the nation’s anthem resonated on this prestigious stage. It was a storybook ending for a team that had never before reached the Grand Finals, much less claimed the crown at WEC’s MLBB event.
The stakes had been incredibly high at WEC 2024, organized by the International eSports Federation (IESF). With 88 regions participating in grueling qualifiers over several months, only the best 16 teams made it to the Main Stage in Riyadh.
However, the action didn’t stop there for Team Malaysia. All eyes shifted to their M6 World Championship debut later that month. As reigning MPL Malaysia Season 14 champions, they aimed to chase the elusive Golden Road—winning all major MLBB eSports titles in a single year (MSC 2024, MPL Malaysia Season 14, and the M6 World Championship). Their first test was scheduled against Türkiye’s S2G eSports on November 28 at 2 PM GMT+8.

Meanwhile, the MLBB eSports buzz continued with the women’s event, held from November 16-19. Featuring 12 teams divided into two groups, the round-robin Group Stage determined who advanced to the Playoffs’ intense double-elimination format.
Malaysia’s Deputy Prime Minister even joined the excitement, cheering for the national squad during their match against Indonesia—a testament to how eSports had united the nation like never before.
Team Malaysia’s historic win etched their names in eSports glory. Fans celebrated their success and eagerly awaited their next big challenge on the world stage.
